<br />09/25/2006 <br /> <br />ORIGINAL <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 14739 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION SUPPORTING PROPOSITIONS 1A, 18, 1C, 1D, 1E, AND <br />84 ON THE NOVEMBER 2006 BALLOT <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City is responsible for building and maintaining <br />infrastructure that is essential to establishing and preserving the economic and social <br />well-being of the residents and businesses of this community; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this infrastructure includes roadways, bike lanes, and other <br />transportation systems, affordable housing, provision of drinking water, sewage <br />treatment systems, parks, and other important community amenities; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City's population has grown by over ten-percent in the last five <br />years, and this growth trend is projected to continue and expand, creating new <br />pressures on the city to expand and improve our basic infrastructure; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, earlier this year the California State Legislature approved a $37.3 <br />billion package of fiscal and bond measures to provide funding for housing, <br />transportation, levee repairs and flood control projects and education facilities; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, an additional bond measure to raise funds for clean water, parks <br />and coastal protection has been placed on the ballot through the initiative process by a <br />coalition of business, public health, local government, and environmental organizations; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, these measures have been titled Propositions 1A, 1 B, 1 C, 1 D, 1 E <br />and 84 by the Secretary of State and will be placed on the November 2006 ballot for <br />voter approval; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Proposition 1A will close an existing loophole and ensure that gas <br />tax revenue from Proposition 42, passed by voters in 2002, is only spent on <br />transportation improvement projects as originally intended; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Proposition 1 B will provide up to $20 billion on various transportation <br />projects to rebuild California, of which $1 billion will go to cities and $1 billion to counties <br />for local streets and roads improvement projects; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Proposition 1 C will provide approximately $3 billion for housing <br />projects, including $1.35 billion that helps cities address housing-related infrastructure <br />issues, consisting of $850 million in grants for development of public infrastructure <br />projects that facilitate or support infill housing construction, $200 million for parks, and <br />$300 million for development near public transportation; and <br /> <br />A TTY/RESO/RESO.1649 <br />091106 <br /> <br />14739 <br />formerly muff # 307 <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />
