0 R I G I N A L 7/28/97 <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 13145 <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION REQUESTING INCLUSION OF FRONTAGE ROAD <br /> IN PLANNING FOR STATE ROUTE 101 AUXILIARY LANES IN <br /> THE VICINITY OF WHIPPLE AVENUE IN THE CITY OF <br /> REDWOOD CITY <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, traffic congestion is one of the most significant concerns of <br />the citizens of San Mateo County as indicated in a recent Bay Area-wide poll; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, traffic congestion on State Route 101 in San Mateo County <br />has reached such a serious level as to impair the ability of public agencies to <br />respond to emergency calls and otherwise to provide important public services; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the San Mateo County Transportation Authority is currently <br />preparing plans to address congestion problems on State Route 101, specifically <br />through the development of auxiliary traffic lanes; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, congestion on a freeway system is significantly reduced <br />through the use of local frontage roads for short distance trips; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Peninsula Open Space District ("POST") has recently <br />announced its agreement to purchase 1,626 acres of the privately-owned portion <br />of Bait Island (sometimes referred to as "South Shores") with the intention of <br />conveying the property to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for inclusion in the <br />Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge; and <br /> <br />Reso-251 1 <br />F:/Shared/Redwood/Council <br />DES:djk <br />07/22/97 <br /> <br /> <br />
