0 R I G I N A L 7/28/97 <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 13141 <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br /> TO PARTICIPATE IN THE "1997 SPARE THE AIR CITY" <br /> CAMPAIGN <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District is conducting <br />its voluntary "Spare the Aid~ program from June 1 to October 15, 1997, in the <br />nine counties that comprise the San Francisco Bay Area; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Spare the Ak is now in its seventh year and has enlisted <br />approximately 630 public and private employers and organizations who pledge to <br />participate in the Spare the Air Program; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the San Francisco Bay Area has some of the cleanest air of <br />any metropolitan area in the nation, as evidenced by the region's designation as <br />an attainment area for the national ozone standard in 1995, but recently it has <br />experienced its highest air pollution levels in almost ten years, and is now in <br />jeopardy of losing its attainment status; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Bay Area Clean Air Partnership ("BayCAP") is a public- <br />private partnership that supports the voluntary effort to improve the Bay Area's <br />air including the Spare the Air Program; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, BayCAP will recognize cities that participate in the "Spare the <br />Air City" campaign by carrying the clean-air theme citywide; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City desires to obtain the designation of <br />"Spare the Air City'S; <br /> <br />Reso-250 1 <br />F :lSharedlRedwoodlCouncil <br />DES:djk <br />07/21/97 <br /> <br /> <br />
