AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br />AND THE SEQUOIA UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT <br />FOR SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER PROGRAM <br />This Agreement is made and entered into this day of� 2019, by <br />and between the City of Redwood City ("City") and the Sequoia Union igh School <br />District ("District") (collectively, the "Parties"). <br />RECITALS <br />This Agreement is entered Into with reference to the following facts and <br />circumstances: <br />A. Since the year 2000, the Redwood City Police Department has provided a <br />School Resource Officer ("SRO") at Sequoia High School. The SRO is involved in a variety <br />of activities that enhance safety on campus and provide a positive police presence, <br />increasing the Police Department's ability to serve the needs of the entire Redwood City <br />community. <br />B. The partnership between Sequoia High School and the Police Department is <br />an important part of on-going efforts to reach out to the youth in the community and <br />establish strong relationships with community members. <br />C. The District agrees to partially fund the SRO salary during the nine months <br />when the high school is in session. The District has requested 40 hours per week of SRO <br />services at Sequoia High School for the 2019-20 school year (July 1, 2019 - June 30, 2020). <br />NOW, THEREFORE, for and in consideration of the collaborative agreements herein <br />contained, the sufficiency of which are hereby acknowledged, the Parties hereto agree as <br />follows: <br />1. Term and Termination, The term of this Agreement shall be for a period <br />beginning on July 1, 2019 and ending June 30, 2020. <br />2. Obligation of thg City. During the term of this Agreement, City hereby <br />covenants and agrees to the following: <br />A. The City agrees to provide a SRO for Sequoia H ig h School to <br />address safety issues as described below. <br />I. SRO on site at Sequoia High School during 38 weeks of school <br />instruction for forty (40) hours per week, excluding recognized school holidays, <br />with the days of the week and hours to be jointly determined by representatives <br />of the City and District. The availability of the SRO may be periodically <br />impacted by collateral duties or exigent circumstances, though the City will <br />make reasonable efforts to minimize absences and will provide a temporary <br />SRO for any absences of more than two consecutive days.
