An application for an adult-oriented book store has been received by
the Planning Department; said book store intends to open in a location
immediately adjacent to a residential neighborhood and within 1700
feet of a school.

2. The location of the aforesaid proposed adult-oriented book store is on
the same main thoroughfare (to wit: El Camino Real) as, and within
the vicinity of, an existing adult-oriented bookstore, which latter store
is within 450 feet of essentially the same residential neighborhood as
that adjacent to the location of the proposed adult-oriented bookstore,
and which existing adult-oriented bookstore is within 220 feet of the
aforesaid school, school.

3. The location of the proposed adult-oriented bookstore is also
approximately 2800 feet from Sequoia Station, a recently
established, high quality shopping center developed by the
Redevelopment Agency of the City of Redwood City.

4. This Council is concerned that the proliferation of adult uses, without
adequate planning, will cause an increase in crime, reduce residential
and commercial property values, and adversely effect businesses in
the vicinity of such adult- oriented uses.

5. This Council is aware that the aforesaid effects have occurred in other
communities where adult-oriented businesses have located, including
areas adjacent to the corporate boundaries of this City.
