<br />CGM:mf 3/07/83 <br />CGM:djg-c 6/16/83R <br /> <br /> <br />ORIGINAL <br />ORDINANCE NO. 1876 AUG 22 1983 <br /> <br />--------- <br /> <br />ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 2.55 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY <br />OF REDWOOD CITY RELATING TO THE DISPOSITION OF UNCLAIMED <br />PROPERTY <br /> <br /> <br />THE COUNCIL OF REDWOOD CITY DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />SECTION 1. Section 2.55 of the Code of the City of Redwood <br /> <br />City is hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />"Except as provided in Section 2.54, unclaimed property <br /> <br />in the possession of the Police Department shall be disposed <br /> <br />of as follows: <br /> <br />(a) Said property shall be released to the owner <br />thereof upon proof of ownership and if said <br />owner makes claim therefoIBwithin a period <br />of four (4) consecutive months commencing <br />on the date of possession by the Police <br />Department, or a period of three (3) <br />consecutive months in the case of unclaimed <br />bicycles. Said owner shall be required to pay <br />a reasonable charge to defray costs of storage <br />and care of the property as a condition to the <br />release thereof. <br /> <br />(b) If said property is not claimed in accordance <br />with the provisions of subsection (a) hereof <br />it shall be disposed of as follows: <br /> <br />(1) Said property may, upon determination <br />by the Chief of Police, be found to be <br />needed for a public use and be used <br />therefor. <br /> <br />(2) Said property may be sold at public <br />auction to the highest bidder, after <br />notice given therefor by the Chief of <br />Police at least five (5) days before <br />the time fixed for such sale by <br />publication once in a newspaper of <br />general circulation published in the <br />City.
