MINUTE ORDER <br /> CITY COUNCIL WORKSHOP MEETING <br /> <br /> JANUARY 31, 1998 <br /> M.O. 98-035 <br /> <br />CITY CLERK DEPARTMENT <br />Redwood City <br /> <br />DATE: February 4, 1998 <br /> <br />Attention: City Manager <br /> City Attorney <br /> Council <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Council Meeting times, monthly schedule (205) <br /> <br />Meeting of the Council of the City of Redwood City on january 31, 1998. <br /> <br />Present: Councilmembers Claire, Hartnett, Ira, Leipzig, Ruskin <br /> and Mayor Howard <br /> <br />Absent: None <br /> <br />The following motion was made, carried and entered on the Minutes: <br /> <br /> Council Member Ira said City government is similar to the business <br /> sector with the Council as the Board of Directors and the City Manager <br /> as the CEO, except that the City's business meetings are held in public. <br /> Council Member Ira said the Council wanted to run the government <br /> more efficiently and recommended three meetings per month: two <br /> business meetings, and a third one for meetings with boards, committees <br /> and commissions or specific issues. He said if Council agreed to that <br /> schedule, it would mean more items on the Consent Calendar. <br /> <br /> Council Member Leipzig agreed that Council meetings were business <br /> meetings held in public and recommended two formal meetings per <br /> month, one Monday study session and one "home study session." <br /> <br /> Council Member Hartnett disagreed and said Council Members met in <br /> public to do public business. He said the current four meetings per <br /> month have allowed the business of the City to proceed well, and <br /> suggested that if there aren't enough items for a meeting, it could be <br /> canceled. <br /> <br /> <br />
