<br />RESOLUTIOU <br /> <br />WHEREAS a resolution has been adopted by an Improvement Club <br /> <br />of the City of San Mateo expressing its opposition to necessary enlarge- <br /> <br />ment of the office facilities and construction of a new building for the <br /> <br />conducting of business of certain departments of the County of San Mateo <br /> <br />adja.cent to the Court House at Redwood City, and again urging the removel <br /> <br />of the County Seat to the City of San ~ateo; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS the County Seat of San Mateo County has been located <br /> <br />at Redwood City for gO years and. the County has invested more than <br /> <br />$300,000 in a Court House and a separate building for the Sheriff1s <br /> <br /> <br />office and County Jail in Redwood City, and an abandonment thereof would <br /> <br />cause the loss of a. very substantial part of said investment by reason <br /> <br />of the inadaptability of either of said buildings for any purposes other <br />than that for which they are designed and built; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS the great increase of the population of San Mateo County <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />since the construction of said building necessitates gradual extension of <br /> <br />office space and the construction of new buildings adjacent to said Court <br /> <br />House for the construction of the first of which a substantial grant has <br /> <br />been made by Public Works Administration of the United States which will <br /> <br />greatly minimize the cost of such building to the tax pB3ers of San Mateo <br /> <br />County, and therefore should be availed of promptly; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS the great improvement in highways and facilities for <br /> <br />transportation bas rendered the present Court House much more accessible <br /> <br />today than when originally esta.blished in Redwood Ci ty-, and the trend of <br /> <br />population has been and will be for many years southerly in San Mateo <br /> <br />County; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS the City of Redwood City is a focal point for citizens <br /> <br />of the whole County by reason of numerous highways centering in Redwood <br /> <br /> <br />City as a hub, all of which facts render any change of the County Seat <br /> <br />uneconomical, wasteful J unnecessary and undesirable; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED tha.t the City Council of the <br />
