06/25/01 <br />ORIGINAL <br />RESOLUTION NO. 14264 <br />RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE DEVELOPMENT AND <br />ADOPTION OF THE BAY AREA ALLIANCE DRAFT "COMPACT" <br />WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City's economy, environmental <br />resources, cultural amenities, educational institutions, and the diversity of the <br />population make this region a unique and special place; and <br />WHEREAS, the entire Bay Area is undergoing rapid changes and facing <br />serious challenges; and <br />WHEREAS, traffic congestion, long commutes and overburdened transit <br />systems, the lack of sufficient housing and skyrocketing housing costs, loss of <br />open space, declining neighborhoods, air and water pollution and the <br />increasingly inequitable distribution of benefits of our thriving economy are <br />interrelated problems that require integrated solutions; and <br />WHEREAS, sustaining the region's environment and economy in a way <br />that ensures for all residents innovative thinking and "e- vision" — a balanced, <br />integrated, inclusive and collaborative approach; and <br />WHEREAS, e- vision is a vision of the future that integrates the Three Es <br />of Sustainable Development (Three Es): prosperous economv, quality <br />environment, and social a uit , is inclusive of all stakeholders and celebrates the <br />region's diverse social, environmental and economic strengths, and <br />Reso -1179 <br />DES:jj <br />Shared /Redwood /Council <br />06/19/01 <br />
