ORDINANCE NO 864 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 2, 5, 7, AND 8 OF ORDINANCE NO. 339 TO PROVIDE FOR REGULATIONS OF THE COLLECTION, REMOVAL, AND DISPOSAL OF REFUSE IN THE CITY; AND REGULATING THE COLLECTION THEREOF AND FIXING AND ESTABLISHING THE RATES TO BE CHARGED. WHEREAS, on July 7, 1954, the City of Redwood City and the San Mateo County Scavenger Company, a corporation, hereinafter referred to as "Company," entered into an agreement for the col- lection and disposal of garbage, rubbish and waste matter within the City; and, WHEREAS, the South County Garbage and Refuse Disposal District has established certain rules and regulations requiring a change in the method of garbage and refuse disposal, and the Bay Area Air Pollution Control District is about to establish additional regulations governing such disposal; and, WHEREAS, in view of said existing and proposed changes, City and Company intend to terminate said agreement dated July 7, 1954, and enter into a new agreement therefor; and, WHEREAS, the abovementioned rules and regulations established by the South County Garbage and Refuse Disposal District require an immediate change in the method of garbage and refuse disposal for the protection of the public peace, health and safety; and, WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Redwood City hereby finds and determines that the public interest will be best served by the termination of said agreement of July 7, 1954; and the execution of a new agreement commencing July 1, 1957; and, WHEREAS, the amendments hereinafter set forth must be accom- plished before July 1, 1957; and, WHEREAS, the provisions of this ordinance must be effective before July 1, 1957, to protect the public peace, health and safety; and
