2/23/2004 <br />ORIGINAL <br />RESOLUTION NO. 14573 <br />RESOLUTION TEMPORARILY CLOSING TO GENERALLY <br />WESTBOUND TRAFFIC ON MIDDLEFIELD ROAD BEGINNING <br />APPROXIMATELY ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY FEET FROM <br />VETERANS BOULEVARD TO BRADFORD STREET, HEREINAFTER <br />THE "MIDDLEFIELD PARKING AREA," AND TEMPORARILY <br />CLOSING THE CUL DE SAC OF FULLER STREET FROM ALLERTON <br />STREET GENERALLY EAST TO WINSLOW STREET, HEREINAFTER, <br />THE "FULLER CUL DE SAC"; SUSPENDING THE MAXIMUM <br />PARKING PERIOD PERMITTED AND RATE OF PARKING FEES FOR <br />THE MIDDLEFIELD PARKING AREA AND FULLER CUL DE SAC; AND <br />AUTHORIZING THE PARKING OF NEWS MEDIA VEHICLES AT THE <br />MIDDLEFIELD PARKING AREA, THE FULLER CUL DE SAC AND THE <br />CITY PARKING LOT LOCATED AT THE INTERSECTION OF MAIN <br />STREET AND BRADFORD STREET SUBJECT TO ISSUANCE OF <br />VEHICLE PARKING LICENSES AND PAYMENT OF FEES <br />WHEREAS, a major trial is unfolding in the San Mateo County Superior Court, <br />Redwood City; and <br />WHEREAS, a considerable amount of news media attention has been drawn to <br />this trial; and <br />WHEREAS, based on experience to date, Redwood City is aware that the <br />number, size or type of vehicles currently being utilized by the news media can affect <br />the efficient use of the public ways unless appropriate steps are taken to ameliorate any <br />deleterious affects caused thereby; and <br />WHEREAS, in order to effectively provide public services, minimize the overall <br />impact to surrounding commerce, residents and visitors to Redwood City, and protect <br />the public's general health, safety and welfare, the Redwood City Police Department <br />has prepared a parking management plan; and <br />WHEREAS, said plan recommends the closure of generally westbound vehicular <br />traffic on Middlefield Road beginning approximately one hundred and fifty feet (150') <br />westerly of Veterans Boulevard to Bradford Street (the "Middlefield parking area ") and <br />the suspension of the maximum parking period and rate of parking fees that may be <br />charged for parking in said area; and <br />WHEREAS, said plan recommends that should insufficient news media vehicular <br />parking be available at the Middlefield parking area, the closure of the cul de sac of <br />Fuller Street from Allerton Street generally east to Winslow Street, the "Fuller cul de <br />Atty /Reso /Reso.1450 14573 <br />021904 1 Muff # 703 <br />
