SPECIAL ORDERS OF THE DAY
A. Presentation of Proclamation for "Days of Remembrance, Children of the Holocaust:
Their Memories, Our Legacy, Sunday, April 19 through Sunday, April 26, 1998;" (207)
Mayor Howard read the Proclamation and presented it to Jon Levenson, Board member
of Temple Beth Jacob. Mr. Levenson thanked the Council, and said it was fitting that this
remembrance was taking place in the midst of the holy days of Easter and Passover, days
of redemption. He said that the Nazis chose Jewish Holidays to perpetrate their crimes
against Jews, trying to "take away the joys associated with celebration." Mr. Levenson
- said that this event tonight "was the surest evidence of their failure." He urged everyone to
"speak out and fight against any future crimes so that we can truly say, 'never again.' "
MINUTE BOOK NO. 56
Page No. 361
