CLAIRE 401 MARSHALL STREET <br /> COUNCILMEMBER GEORGI LA BERGE REDWOOD CITY, CA <br /> COUNCILMEMBER MA IT LEIPZIG <br /> COUNCILMEMBER IRA RUSKIN <br /> REGULAR MEETING <br /> JANUARY 6, 1997 <br /> CALL TO ORDER - 7:30 P.M., Mayor Hartnett presiding <br /> ROLL CALL <br /> Council Members present: Buchan, Claire, Howard, La Berge, Leipzig, Ruskin and <br /> Mayor Hartnett <br /> Council Members absent: None <br /> Staff present: City Manager Everett, City Attorney Schricker, City Clerk Jorgenson and <br /> Finance Director Ponty, Community Development Director Nelson, Redevelopment Agency <br />- Executive Director Church, Redevelopment Agency Specialist Cady, Senior Planner Passanisi, <br /> Police Captain Granucci <br /> Mayor Hartnett took this opportunity to pay special tribute to Robert Distefano, editor and <br /> owner of the Redwood City Almanac for the past fourteen years, who passed away early <br /> Monday morning at Sequoia Hospital. Mayor Hartnett said the Council would adjourn in Bob's <br /> memory later in the evening, and directed everyone's attention to the sign on the chair in the <br /> front row that Bob had claimed as his own for every Council meeting. On the sign, which <br /> proclaimed an "Order of the Mayor", were the words that the man in black who always sat in <br /> that seat was now wearing white with the angels, and that he would be deeply missed. Mayor <br /> Hartnett chided the audience that if anyone attempted to sit in Bob's seat, the Council would rise <br /> up and remove that person ITom the Chambers, in Bob's name. (203) <br /> PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE - Councilman Claire <br /> INVOCATION: Pastor Dennis Logie of First Christian Church delivered the Invocation and <br /> added, "I pray right now for Lettie and for the mends and family of Bob as they will miss him. <br /> Give them Your comfort, Your peace in this time of turmoil, sadness and sorrOw. I thank You for <br /> his public interest, his public spirit, his willingness to be involved both as a journalist, as a citizen, <br /> and as an editor of the paper. We will miss him.
