ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
A. Richard Silver, 824 Winslow, Redwood City, Board of Supervisors Clerk of the Board,
Vice President of RailPac and Friends of CaiTrain, advised he was speaking as a resident
of Redwood City in support of high speed trains, but not in support of the current
proposal that would utilize CalTrain rights-of-ways between Menlo Park and Brisbane as
part of a larger system that would extend from Los Angeles to San Francisco to
Sacramento. Mr. Silver said the increase of 118 trains per day, 70 at 150 mph, would
require bigger and wider rights-of-way, more tracks, or reduced CaiTrain service for
commuters. Mr. Silver asked Council not to support the current proposal until more data
is received and more public hearings are held on this issue. He also asked that this
subject be scheduled for a future Council meeting.
Mayor Hartnett asked staff to gather more infonnation and report back to Council.
(702)
LJ MEMO 11/5/96
MINUTE BOOK NO. 55
Page No. 003
