RD 05-02 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING SUBMISSION OF AN APPLICATION <br />FOR THE EL CAMINO / VERA STREET WORKFORCE HOUSING <br />PROJECT TO THE SAN MATEO COUNTY OFFICE OF HOUSING FOR <br />CDBG FUNDING FOR FISCAL YEAR 2005/06 IN AN AMOUNT UP TO <br />FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS ($500,000) TO PARTIALLY <br />FUND THE PROJECT CONSTRUCTION AND DESIGNATING DEBBIE <br />JONES-THOMAS, HOUSING COORDINATOR, AS THE CONTACT <br />PERSON <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Redevelopment Agency of Redwood City, in partnership with <br />First Community Housing, a non-profit housing developer is seeking funding <br />opportunities to construct the $20.15 million EI Camino / Vera Street Workforce Housing <br />project; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Project will provide 58 low and very low income rental <br />apartments, 1,200 square feet of ground floor retail space, and 112 parking spaces to <br />serve residents and retail customers; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the San Mateo County Human Service Agency has encouraged the <br />Redevelopment Agency of Redwood City ("Agency") to apply for funding through the <br />Office of Housing for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for the <br />construction of the EI Camino / Vera Street Workforce Housing Project ("Project"); and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Agency staff has been informed that the application must be <br />accompanied by a resolution from the Agency Board authorizing submission of the <br />application and designating a contact person; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Agency is the lead applicant of the San Mateo County CDBG <br />application and First Community Housing is the co-applicant; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Agency is a public entity organized in accordance with the <br />Community Redevelopment Law as contained in California Health and Safety Code <br />sections 33000, et seq. and pursuant thereto, the Agency is authorized to undertake <br />and support projects within designated areas of the City of Redwood City which foster <br />the elimination of blighted conditions and encourage the economic well-being of such <br />areas; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Project is within the boundaries of the Downtown <br />Redevelopment Project Area (the "Project Area") and its development will contribute to <br />the Agency's goals and objectives for the Project Area; and <br /> <br />Atty/Reso/Reso.1514 <br />012005 <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />RD 05-02 <br />Muff # 401 <br />
