<br />19 <br /> <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MELTING OF THE REDWOOD CITY <br />PARK & RECRE.A'IiI Or~ C()~l~IISSION OF SEPT. 2', 1953 . <br /> <br /> <br />A dinner meeting was held prior to the regular meeting at "Eugene's" <br />2R26 El C~ino Real. This get-to-gether was arranged for the purpose <br />of a round table discussion of current problems. Mr. E. A. Rolison,. <br />City Manager and the members of the council who are on the Recreation <br />Committee, were asked. to attend this meeting. <br /> <br />Our regular meeting was called to order at 8:4S P.M. by Chaiman <br />Stout. Those present were Commissioners \¥m. H,anley, Fred Gector, <br />Catherine Brennan and Elouise Campbell; Superintendent of Parks <br />Pasco Balzarini. Absent were Commissioners Ralph Case and Irving <br />Gold; Superintendent of Recreation Alfred Morton. <br /> <br />MINUTES - of the previous meeting were read and approved as corrected. <br /> <br />SECRETARY APPOI,NTED - Chairman Stout appointed Commissioner Elouise <br />Campbell to take over the duties of the Secretary for the balance of <br />the year due to the resignation of Commissioner Hector, who has <br />accepted a position with the County of Santa Barbara, as Superintend- <br /> <br />, <br />ent of Parks. <br /> <br />PERSONAL APPEARANCES - Mr. S. M. Clair from the Friendly Acres area was a <br />visitor at this meeting and made the complaint that the people in pis <br />district felt that they were being forgotten with respect to recrea- <br />tion parks. He pointed out that parks that were started the same time <br />as theirs, elsewhere in the city were nearly completed. A motion was <br />made, seconded and carried by Commissioners Hanley & Hector that a . <br />letter be sent to the City Council asking them the status of our <br />agreement with Elementary School District. <br /> <br />+ . <br /> <br />COMMUNICATIONS - A letter from the Council suggesting that the time might <br />be right for installing lights at the baseball grounds at Community <br />Park. A motion was made, seconded and carried by Commissioners Hector <br />and Catherine Brennan that we hold this matter on the B.genda unti 1 <br />our Superintendent of, Recreation Alfred Morton has had a chance to <br />get the cost of same. <br /> <br />Another letter from the Council suggesting the possibility of fencing <br />the Howland Street entrance to Menzes Playground, to eleminate chance <br />of accide.nts to children entering the park at this point. Motion <br />made, seconded B,nd carried 1)y Commissioners Hanley & Elouise Campbell <br />that we delay action on this until further investigation be made as <br />the Commission has be.en considering the 'advisability of fencing the <br />entire park. ' <br /> <br /> <br />COMMITTEE REPORT ON WESTWOOD PARK DEDICATION - With Commissioner Fred <br />Ee ctor acting as master of ceremonies, \Vestwood PA.rk was formerly <br />opened to the public on Saturday August 22,1953. Principal Speakers <br />were Mayor Floyd Granger and Hiram Stout, Chairman of the Park & Rec-~ <br />reation Commission. Other members of the Council present were Robert ¡ <br />SpilJ~ers and \fi lliam Royer. <br /> <br />
