147 REDWOOD CITY PARK AND RECREATION DOMMISSION REGULAR MEETING, MARCH 7,1956 The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to order by Chairmw Irving Gold on March 7 at 8 p.m. Present: Catherine Brennan, Louise Tornell, William Hanley, Gerry Verssen, Maurice Schutz, Alyn Beals, Irving Gold, Pasco Balzarini and Alfred Morton. Also pre- sent: Assistant to City Manager L. A. Kimball. MSC William Hanley and Catherine Brennan that the minutes of the meet- ing of Febru~y 8 be ~proved as ~iled. A memo was received from City Clerk Dodge, stating that the city council has approved the recommendation regarding operating hours, etc., of the swimming pool. A copy of a letter from Chester Lebsack, Asst. City Attorney, to the City Clerk, was read, advising that the sale of a portion of Haweg Park is n~ in escrow in too amo~t of $28,650.00. A letter from the state Recreation Commdssion to the city council was for~!ard,ed, regarding our request for a recreation survey. The state Commission no longer conducts formal studies, except for communities which do not have an established recreation commIssion, department and services. A guide will be published in April for use by Planning and Park and Recreation Commissions. The state Commission recommends a series of meetings with local commissions together with a state spec- ialist for study and applications of suggestions in this guide. This matter will be held in abeyance until the Park and Recreation Commission receives this guide. Comissioner Willi~ Hanley reported that bids of $50,000 will be asked for the dredging at Yacht Harbòr. Commissioner Louise Tornell reported continued progresson the Park and Recreation Foundation. , Commissioner Alyn Beals reported that sweet gun trees will be planted now on EI Camino between Whipple and Brewster and the old trees re- moved later. Commissioner Maurice Schutz reported continued progress on additional land in the Farm, Hills subdivision. Ray Murphy of Murphy & Hastings, engineering firm, advised the com- m1,.ss1.on that the bound"aries of Stulsaft Park have been set.
