<br />Minutes of April 3, 1963 Meeting
<br />
<br />The meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to order
<br />by Chairman Alyn Beals at 8:00 p.m. '
<br />
<br />The following Commissioners were present: Chairman Alyn Beals, James
<br />Knecht, Maurice Schutz, Catherine Brennan and Louise Tornell. Noted
<br />absent: Stan Sugarman. Also present: Alfred Morton, Pasco Balzarini,
<br />- and Don Dimitratos. The minutes of the March 6, 1963, meeting were
<br />approved as mailed. '

<br />A letter was received from the City Manager, advising that the lights
<br />for night watering would be completed by April 3. A letter was received
<br />from the City Manager, advising that the padding of the backstops at
<br />Community Park would be com pleted the 1st week in April.

<br />Commissioner Brennan reported that the annual Flower Show will be held
<br />April 27 and 28 at the Veterans Memorial Building. She also reported
<br />that there will be some commercial exhibits in addition to the regular
<br />entries. All members of the commission will attend the George Hjelte
<br />testimonial dinner, to be held at the Villa on April 18.
<br />
<br />Jim Knecht, Chairman of the nominating committee, presented the follow-
<br />ing slate of officers to be elected for the coming year: Alyn Beals,
<br />Chairman, Jim Knecht, Vice-Chairman and Louise Tornell, Secretary.
<br />MSC Schutz and Brennan that the slate, as presented be unanimously
<br />elected.
<br />
<br />The Commission directed the Secretary to write a letter to Jim Slobo-
<br />dian, thanking him for his service on the commission the past 2 years.
<br />
<br />Pasco Balzarini reported that two corner lots at Jefferson Avenue
<br />and Farm Hill Boulevard should be sold and .the money used for Community
<br />Park.
<br />
<br />MSC ~echt and Schutz and ~e City M~ager loMed into the feasibility
<br />of selling this property, and the information to be available for the
<br />May meeting.
<br />
<br />The capital outlay budget of the Park Department was discussed. A letter
<br />to be written to the City Manager, asking for an additional $1,000 in
<br />the Park Department Capital Outlay Sales Tax Budget to finish paving the
<br />road between Bechet Field in Community Park and the Armory Driveway.
<br />
<br />MSC Knecht and Schutz that a letter be written to the City Manager,
<br />recommending that the two parkways at Brewster Avenue and Nevada be
<br />officially named the Laurie Duncan Parkways, in honor of the former
<br />city employee.
<br />
<br />The Commission directed the Secretary to write a letter of thanks to
<br />Buy Barbour, for his contribution of a drinking fountain and two park
<br />benches, that have been installed in wellesley Crescent.
<br />
<br />A letter to the City Manager be written, asking that the Engineering
<br />Depar~ent work up an estimaœ on the parking at the end of ~rtle
<br />
