Councilman William Royer, Councilman
Floyd Granger, Councilman S. D. Herkner, City Manager James E. Neal,
Assistant City Manager Howard Ullrich, Alfred Morton, Don Dimitratos
Sam Bozzo, Bert Barratt, Cecil Hall and Louis Fried.

Councilman William Royer presented a plan for the proposed recreation
center in Friendly Acre area. He stated that the plan wa worked up
by members of the Friendly Acres group, Howard Ullrich, Red Morton and
the Engineering Department. This building will have a junior high
school size gymnasium, office and storage space, game room, lavatory
facilities, meeting rooms and an outdoor barbecue area.

The size of the building will be 148' x 881 and should be located in
the Taft School area. He stated that the present Friendly Acre area is
not large enough to support a building of this type, but with the unin-
corporated area and the incorporated area combined the facility could
be justified. If the unincorporated would not annex to the City of Red-
wood City then they could be set up as a service district and pay their
sha~ in the use of the building.

Councilman Royer explained that there are practically sufficient funds
available to construct this obui1ding since they have earmarked some
$45,000.00 from the sale of the Marsh Road property and the 2nd and
Bay Road property could realize some $100,000.00 and the balance could
no doubt be made up from Sales Tax funds.

Assistant City Manager Howard Ullrich reported that he and Red Morton
reviewed the Taft School area for a possible site and ~commended that
the area at the corner of 8th Avenue and Bay Road would be the best-
si e. We will have to contact the school authorities to see if they
will be in accord with the city to put this building on school property.
Ullrich stated that the Friendly Acre group recommended the present
plan and that it was put together by the city staff.

Councilman Royer stated that for years we have endeavored to get suit-
able facilities for this area and now that we are in a position to do'
the job he felt that he could get the City Council support for the
project.

~----.-.~~.,"-""-'~_. -~~ ._--~

~-

~- ~ , .~~._,._-

~_._--~~-",~--&',...~-----~-~.,-

. .-
