Swope and Truscelli <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: <br />GUESTS PRESENT: <br /> <br />Commissioner Howard <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />STAFF PRESENT: <br /> <br />Director Peter Griffiths and <br />Secretary Denise Monroe <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to <br />order at 7:30pm by Chairperson Bob Slusser in Room 1 of the Community <br />Activities Building. 1400 Roosevelt Avenue. Redwood City. California. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />A correction was made to January minutes under Item 1. The motion should <br />read IIThat the Commission endorse the recommendation of the Red Morton <br />Center Project Committee and based on the experience of Bull. Stockwell and <br />Allen. recommend that the City Council select them as the architectural <br />firm for the RFplI. The minutes were approved as corrected. <br /> <br />CORRESPONDENCE <br /> <br />-A letter was received from resident Regina Johnson regarding her support <br />of a dog exercise area in Redwood City. Director Griffiths will respond to <br />her letter. ' <br /> <br />-The Commissioners were given the Statistical Data Report from the Fair Oaks <br />Community Center for Fiscal Year 91-92 showing the volume of activity of <br />meeting users. administrative users. volunteer hours and incoming phone calls <br />for the Center. <br /> <br />-Chairperson Slusser said he received a letter from Civic Cultural <br />Commissioner Jeff Filippi regarding obtaining the Comrnission1s endorsement of <br />the concept of a preliminary feasibility study for the possible acquisition <br />of the Fox Theater. Copies of the letter will be forwarded to the <br />Commissioners for their review. Chairperson Slusser said he would contact <br />Mr. Filippi regarding this matter and it will be placed on the March agenda. <br /> <br />ITEM 1 - Red Morton Center Update <br /> <br />Director Griffiths said a five hour meeting was held with Mark Schatz of <br />Bull. Stockwell and Allen with staff on February 19 regarding the pre-design <br />and feasibility study of the Red Morton Center. The meeting enabled staff to <br />indicate their needs and work activities to be included in the new center and <br />also to establish a date for a public hearing for the new center. The public <br />hearing has been set for Tuesday. March 23 with the location to be <br />determined. He said Mr. Schatz expects to have a final decision made within <br />the next 3 weeks as to whether the center should be renovated or torn down. <br />He also expects to have the full report completed by mid-May.
