<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br />PUBLIC HEARING-RED MORTON CENTER FUNDRAISING <br />MINUTES OF JANUARY 31, 1995 <br /> <br />CO MMIS S lONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Swope, C ommissi oners <br />Davis, Nordness, Slusser and Truscelli <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: <br /> <br />Commissioner Morton <br /> <br />GUESTS PRESENT: Councilwomen Judy Buchan, Diane Howard, Georgi <br />LaBerge and guests (see sign-in sheet) <br /> <br />STAFF PRES ENT : S u perin ten dent Sa 11 y HartIn an, Recrea ti on S u perviso r <br />Julie Hannon, Recreation Center Supervisor Jan Knight, <br />Therapeutic Coordinator Erlinda Tulioc, Park Supervisor <br />Mike Gibbons and Secretary Denise Monroe <br /> <br />The special meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to <br />order by Chairperson Susan Swope at 7:40pm in the Library Community <br />Room, 1044 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, California. <br /> <br />ITEM 1 - WELCOME AND INTRODUCTIONS <br /> <br />Chairperson Swope welcomed the people attending tonight's meeting and <br />introduced the staff members from the Park, Recreation and Community <br />Services Department in attendance. <br /> <br />ITEM 2 - PURPOSE OF MEETING <br /> <br />Chairperson Swope explained that the idea of raising funds for the new Red <br />Morton Center was proposed by the Park and Recreation Commission. This <br />idea was brought before the City Council who agreed with the fundraising <br />project. The fundraising effort will last approximately 12 months since the <br />Center will be opening in about one year. Chairperson Swope felt it is critical <br />to have community involvement in the project as it will give people a sense <br />of ownership in the facility. She also does not want to burden City staff with <br />the fund raising efforts due to budgetary cutbacks. Councilwoman Howard <br />offered to put something about the fundraising efforts in the City Update <br />newsletter if she can receive an article prior to the February 10 printing <br />deadline. <br /> <br />--- <br />
