<br />PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> <br />MINUTES OF FEBRUARY 22,1995 <br /> <br />CO MMIS SI 0 NERS PRESENT: Chairperson Swope I Co mmiss io ners <br />Davis, Hughes, Nordness, Slusser and <br />T ruscelli <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioner Morton <br /> <br />G VEST S PRESENT: Pete Hughes, Michael Brien, Jean Cloud, Shirley Masters <br /> <br />STAFF PRESENT: Director Peter Griffiths, Management Analyst Ramon <br />Aguilar and Secreta ry Denise Mo nr oe <br /> <br />The special meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to <br />order by Chairperson Susan Swope at 7:30pm in Room 5 of the Community <br />Acti vitie s B uil ding, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />The minutes of the November 30, 1994 meeting were approved as mailed. <br />Corrections were made to the January 31, 1995 minutes under Items 5 and 6. <br />Under Item 6, the word "Chairperson" should be replaced with the word <br />"Commissioner" proceeding Commissioners Davis and Slusser's names. <br />Under Item 5, the last sentence should read that Pete and Paula Uccelli were <br />asked to be the Honorary Chairpersons for the fundraising effort and they <br />accepted the request. The minutes of the January 31 meeting were approved <br />as corrected. . <br /> <br />ITEM 1- DOG S IN THE PARK UPDATE <br /> <br />Management Analyst Ramon Aguilar reported that he and Councilwoman <br />Diane Howard had a meeting with 8 to 9 neighbors regarding the proposed <br />dog exercise area on the Hetch Hetchy right-of-way near the intersection of <br />Femside and Massachusetts. The neighbors who attended the meeting all <br />expressed their displeasure for use of the property as a dog exercise area and <br />asked the Commission to consider different areas in Redwood City which <br />were not near residential areas. Their primary concerns were the increased <br />dog activity in the neighborhood, health issues (proposed area is tick <br />infested), neighborhood security and related activities. <br /> <br />Mr. Aguilar stated he has looked into the property near Ampex but <br />understands that it will soon be placed up for sale. He will be checking with <br />the Port of Redwood City to see if they might have any suggestions for a site <br />in the Seaport Centre area. Mr. Aguilar also noted the neighbors gave them a <br />
