PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION
MINUTES OF TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 1999

COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Morton, Commissioners Davis,
Joseph, Slusser, Truscelli

COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioners La Berge and Swope

GUESTS PRESENT: Deirdre Mitra, Ian Bain
STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Gary Hover, Secretary Denise Monroe

The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to order
by Chairperson Vic Morton at 7:35pm in Room 1 at the Community Activities
Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

The minutes of the October meeting were approved as mailed.

CORRESPONDENCE

There was no correspondence.

ITEM 1- MADDUX PARK RENOVATION

Superintendent Hover spoke about a conversation between Manager Mike
Gibbons and Donna Habeeb regarding guidelines that the Maddux Park
Renovation group should follow regarding project donations received from stores
or corporations. Deirdre Mitra spoke on behalf of Donna Habeeb regarding this
matter and stated the group is interested in selling bricks and hand tiles as part
of the fundraising effort for the park renovation. She noted that there is not room
for corporate logos on bricks but was concerned about donations of picnic tables
and how the companies would be recognized. Ms. Mitra was considering placing
plaques on tables or benches with the name of the company on them and would
not include a logo. Superintendent Hover explained that the plaques should be
done the same way as a public donation of a bench or table. Ms. Mitra spoke
about locations for the bricks to be installed including a sidewalk leading to the
play equipment area. There was discussion about switching the prices of the
tiles and the bricks in order to make them more attractive to purchases.
Superintendent Hover mentioned that Susie Peyton stated she would be willing
to work with the Maddux Park Renovation group if they were interested. It was
announced that Henry Ford School and Kennedy Middle School have adopted
Maddux Park and Commissioner Joseph stated she would help with the
coordination of the school liaisons and the renovation group.

ITEM 2 - STULSAFT PARK UPDATE

Superintendent Hover reported that a draft recommendation report was received
and there will be a meeting on Thursday, November 18 at 3:00pm at the CAB to
discuss the report before submitting it to the County. He also noted that the bids
for the park project will go out in late January or early February, and construction
will begin in April 2000. There will be a meeting for staff to go over the project

~
