<br /> <br />.". <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> <br />MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, MARCH 28, 2001 <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Joseph, Commissioners Davis, <br />Swope, and Walsh <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioners La Berge, Morton and Truscelli <br /> <br />GUESTS PRESENT: Arlene Hoenak, Georgi La Berge <br /> <br />STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Gary Hover, Secretary Denise Monroe, <br />Public Works Superintendent Gordon Mann <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to <br />order by Chairperson Jeri Joseph at 7:32pm in Room 5 at the Community <br />Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />M/S Davis/Walsh: To approve the February minutes as mailed. <br />Motion passed. <br /> <br />CORRESPONDENCE <br /> <br />There was no correspondence. <br /> <br />ITEM 1 - APPEAL OF TREE REMOVAL PERMIT AT 1584 MITCHELL WAY <br /> <br />Public Works Superintendent Gordon Mann spoke about the history of the <br />tree removal permit process for Mrs. Arlene Hoenak of 1584 Mitchell Way and <br />the reasons why the permit was denied. He stated he found the tree to be <br />healthy although there were a few defects on the tree which could be <br />trimmed away. He recommended that the branches and tree be pruned, but <br />could not justify having the tree removed. Superintendent Mann explained <br />the property owner expressed concern about the tree falling over, but there <br />was no arboricultural evidence to substantiate this concern. <br /> <br />Mrs. Arlene Hoenak spoke about the history of the tree and its location <br />against a fence which backs up to Adelante School. She stated she is afraid <br />this tree might go over in a storm and that she would be liable. She noted <br />that her neighbor, Mr. Bostos, put a drainage ditch in his backyard and she <br />wondered if he might have cut the tree's roots which might impact the health <br />of the tree, <br /> <br />Commissioner Davis stated he visited the tree and brought pictures of the <br />tree for the Commissioners' review.
