1 - -- ~ PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES OF WEDNESDA Y, MAY 23, 2001 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Joseph, Commissioners Swope, Truscelli and Walsh COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioners Davis, La Berge, and Morton GUESTS PRESENT: Walter Moore, Pat Webb, Vince Truscelli, and Eighteen Neighbors of Red Morton Park STAFF PRESENT: Director Corinne Centeno, Superintendent Gary Hover, Superintendent Chris Beth, Secretary Denise Monroe The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to order by Chairperson Jeri Joseph at 7:35pm in Room 1 at the Community Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Two corrections were made to the April minutes: 1,) Under Item 6, Strategic Plan, the second sentence should read: "The committee would like to send "teams" out to group meetings to explain what Redwood City Parks, Recreation and Community Services does currently and get feedback on what facilities, programs, and services the public wants provided, 2.) Under Item 7, Create Civic Engagement, the last sentence should read: "Chairperson Joseph suggested the Commissioners bring their ideas about ways to reach out to families in the community to the May meeting ," The minutes were approved as corrected, CORRESPON DENCE -A newsletter from the Audibon Society of Santa Clara Valley was received. ITEM 1 - PROGRESS REPORT ON DOWNTOWN AREA PLAN Walter Moore of the Downtown Area Task Force gave the history of the Task Force and explained that the purpose of the group is to formulate a plan for the downtown area and incorporate it into the City's General Plan amendment. Mr, Moore stated the Commission will receive the same presentation this evening that the City Council received a few weeks ago. Mr. Moore said he would like comments from the City's board and commission members regarding the content of this presentation and encouraged the 1;, ~,'\ -
