PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 23, 2002 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Joseph, Commissioners Davis, Truscelli and Walsh COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioners La Berge, Morton and Swope GUESTS PRESENT: Vince Truscelli STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Gary Hover, Superintendent Chris Beth, Secretary Denise Monroe The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to order by Chairperson Jeri Joseph at 7:30pm in Room 5 of the Community Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of November 28, 2001 were approved as mailed. A correction was made to the Study Session minutes of December 1, 2001. The last sentence of the minutes should read: "The Study Session meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was adjourned at 12: 22pm to be reconvened on Wednesday, January 23, 2002 at 7:30pm at the Community Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California." The , minutes were approved as corrected. CORRESPONDENCE -The Avocet Newsletter of the Santa Clara County Audubon Society was received. ITEM 1 - REVIEW OF DECEMBER I, 2001 STUDY SESSION The Commissioners discussed the ideas and decisions developed at the Study Session and it was suggested that the Chairperson and Vice Chairperson establish a yearly Commission calendar and schedule agenda items for 2002. Items discussed were: developing a mentor program, developing a list of speakers for upcoming meetings, and recruiting potential Commission applicants. Superintendent Hover provided the Commissioners with a chronology of 2001 Commission activities based on the minutes which will assist in the mentoring process of new Commissioners. Superintendent Beth announced that he has developed a list of guest speakers for the Commission's February through May meetings. Vice Chairperson Walsh will meet with Superintendent Hover on the yearly calendar. Chairperson Joseph
