PARK AN D RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, APRIL 28, 2004 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Yapp, Commissioners Davis, Joseph, Morton, Swope, Truscelli, and Walsh COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None GUESTS PRESENT: Police Chief Carlos Bolanos, Captain Scott Warner, Detective Sergeant Ed Hernandez, and audience of 90-100 community members STAFF PRESENT: Director Corinne Centeno, Superintendents Gary Hover and Chris Beth, Secretary Denise Monroe The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to order by Chairperson Bob Yapp at 7:40pm in Room 2 of the Community Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS Rudy Luca spoke to audience and encouraged them to become involved in their community and to attend Council meetings. ITEM 1 - COMMUNITY DISCUSSION OF PUBLIC SAFETY CONCERNS IN THE RED MORTON PARK AREA Chairperson Bob Yapp reviewed the agenda with the audience and the process which the Commission would be following. He expressed the Commission's sympathy to the family and friends of the victim of the recent tragedy at the Community Activities Building (CAB). -Overview of April 17 Incident/Status of Investigation Police Chief Carlos Bolanos spoke about the shooting incident on Saturday, April!7 at the CAB and its affect on the staff and community. He introduced Detective Sergeant Hernandez who provided an update on the incident and the subsequent investigation. A handout was provided to the audience with a copy of a Police Department press release with the status of the investigation on one side, and a chart with statistical information on the other. -Presentation of Statistical Data Captain Scott Warner spoke about the statistical data on the handout which listed a summary of activity at the CAB located at 1400 Roosevelt Avenue. The report also included the number of calls for service the Police Department received for the period of April 2002 to April 2004 for the CAB. He stated there were six (6) disturbance calls received during this period and ,..
