<br /> <br />,;¡ <br />I <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />r -- <br />. . <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />PARK AN D RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> <br />MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, APRIL 28, 2004 <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Yapp, Commissioners Davis, <br />Joseph, Morton, Swope, Truscelli, and Walsh <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None <br /> <br />GUESTS PRESENT: Police Chief Carlos Bolanos, Captain Scott Warner, <br />Detective Sergeant Ed Hernandez, and audience of 90-100 community <br />members <br /> <br />STAFF PRESENT: Director Corinne Centeno, Superintendents Gary Hover <br />and Chris Beth, Secretary Denise Monroe <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to <br />order by Chairperson Bob Yapp at 7:40pm in Room 2 of the Community <br />Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> <br />ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br /> <br />Rudy Luca spoke to audience and encouraged them to become involved in <br />their community and to attend Council meetings. <br /> <br />ITEM 1 - COMMUNITY DISCUSSION OF PUBLIC SAFETY CONCERNS IN <br />THE RED MORTON PARK AREA <br /> <br />Chairperson Bob Yapp reviewed the agenda with the audience and the <br />process which the Commission would be following. He expressed the <br />Commission's sympathy to the family and friends of the victim of the recent <br />tragedy at the Community Activities Building (CAB). <br /> <br /> <br />-Overview of April 17 Incident/Status of Investigation <br />Police Chief Carlos Bolanos spoke about the shooting incident on Saturday, <br />April!7 at the CAB and its affect on the staff and community. He introduced <br />Detective Sergeant Hernandez who provided an update on the incident and <br />the subsequent investigation. A handout was provided to the audience with <br />a copy of a Police Department press release with the status of the <br />investigation on one side, and a chart with statistical information on the <br />other. <br /> <br />-Presentation of Statistical Data <br />Captain Scott Warner spoke about the statistical data on the handout which <br />listed a summary of activity at the CAB located at 1400 Roosevelt Avenue. <br />The report also included the number of calls for service the Police <br />Department received for the period of April 2002 to April 2004 for the CAB. <br />He stated there were six (6) disturbance calls received during this period and <br /> <br />,.. <br />
