<br />... <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />r <br />f .. <br /> <br />r <br /> <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> <br />MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 2004 <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Yapp, Commissioners Joseph, <br />Morton, Slusser, and Truscelli . <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioners Swope and White <br /> <br />GUESTS PRESENT: Allison Silvas and Charlene Villagra of Youth Infusion <br />and seventeen guests <br /> <br />STAFF PRESENT: Director Corinne Centeno, Superintendents Gary Hover <br />and Chris Beth, Manager Eric Newby, Recreation Supervisors Jodi Fernandez <br />and Mark Yasuda, Recreation Coordinator Erin Niemeyer, Secretary Denise <br />Monroe <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to <br />order by Chairperson Bob Yapp at 7:34pm in Room 2 of the Community <br />Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California I <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />The minutes of the October meeting were approved as mailed. <br /> <br />CORRESPONDENCE <br /> <br />There was no correspondence. <br /> <br />ITEM 1 - PRESENTATION FROM YOUTH INFUSION <br /> <br />Superintendent Chris Beth introduced Allison Silvas and Charlene Villagra of <br />Youth Infusion who will be making a presentation regarding their findings <br />and recommendations for the future actions in Redwood City. Ms. Silvas <br />explained that the goal of Youth Infusion is to develop a youth.adult <br />partnership model for Redwood City. She stated they interviewed/surveyed <br />staff, Park & Recreation Commissioners, and members of the Youth Advisory <br />Board (YAB) and Teen Advisory Board (TAB). They reviewed the results of <br />the survey which identified the need for a social component for the YAB and <br />a civic engagement component for the TAB; a need for youth's voice to be <br />stronger; need for a formal orientation process of board members; and need <br />to clarify purpose of each board. Ms. Silvas and Ms. Villagra would like to try <br />a couple of models in Redwood City to improve this process. <br /> <br />Thre-e members of the Teen Advisory Board spoke concerning the need for <br />youth to become involved and making sure that youth's voice is heard. One <br />member of the Youth Advisory Board spoke about the goals of the YAB, <br />desire to do park clean-ups, more after school activities, and more outdoor <br /> <br /> <br />
