I ' PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES O,F WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 24, 2005 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Vice Chairperson Morton, Commissioners Joseph, Slusser, Swope, and White COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Chairperson Yapp, Commissioner Truscelli . , , , GUESTS PRESENT: Sharon McNamee, Gary Bonte from Community Development Department, Planning Division STAFF PRESENT: Director Corinne Centeno, Superintendents Gary Hover and Chris Beth, Administrative Assistant Denise Monroe Vice Chairperson Morton called the regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission to order at 7:35pm in Room 4 of the Community Activities Building, 1400 ,Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the July 27 meeting were approved as mailed. The minutes of the August 13 Park Tour were approved as mailed. CORRESPONDENCE There was no correspondence. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS Elizabeth Travers of 27 Lowell Street, said she felt the comments she made in her letter, which was read at the July meeting, should have been included in the July minutes. She also spoke about the need to have staff monitor park permits; the need to limit groups to 25 people or less at Stafford Park; garbage overflow at the park attracting skunks and rats; felt park signs are not getting point across to park users; did not agree with suggestion that people could bring BBQs in parks with a permit; that the Stafford Park Neighborhood Resolution Committee should be consulted before any rules were changed at Stafford Park. Commissioner Slusser asked staff if the garbage cans were the appropriate size in proportion to the garbage generated. Vice Chairperson Morton thanked Mrs. Travers for her input on the proposed ordinance changes and for her comments on the operational issues at Stafford. He requested staff to respond to the operational issues in writing to Mrs. Travers with a copy to the Commissioners. I11III8
