<br />PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> <br />MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, JUNE 28, 2006 <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Slusser (arrived 7:36pm), <br />Commissioners Joseph, Sargent, Swope, Wright <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Vice Chairperson White, Commissioner <br />Truscelli <br /> <br />GUESTS PRESENT: Sharon DeBell <br /> <br />STAFF PRESENT: Director Corinne Centeno, Superintendent Gary Hover, <br />Administrative Assistant Denise Monroe <br /> <br />Commissioner Jeri Joseph called the regular meeting of the Park and <br />Recreation Commission to order at 7:34pm in Room 1 of the Community <br />Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />The approval of the May 2006 minutes was tabled until the July meeting. <br /> <br />Chairperson Slusser assumed the chairperson duties from Commissioner <br />Joseph. <br /> <br />CORRESPONDENCE <br /> <br />There was no correspondence. <br /> <br />ITEM 1 – PRESENTATION OF REDWOOD CITY CREEKS <br /> <br />Sharon DeBell made a presentation regarding Redwood Creek and the <br />potential “daylighting” of the creek to make it more accessible to the public. <br />She provided some history as well as pictures of the creek from the turn of <br />the century to now, showing how development has impacted the available <br />creek acreage. Ms. DeBell felt the creek could be developed into 12 acres of <br />active parkland, social spaces and water-based open space. She also <br />suggested that a path could be developed to connect the creek to the Bay <br />Trail. The Commissioners thanked Ms. DeBell for her presentation. <br /> <br />ITEM 2 – PRESENTATION ON OPEN SPACE ELEMENT OF GENERAL <br />PLAN AND RECOMMENDATION TO PLANNING COMMISSION <br /> <br />Director Centeno said she has reviewed the current Open Space and <br />Conservation Elements and felt there were some inconsistencies in the <br />purpose of the element. She stated Commissioner Swope had also reviewed <br />both elements and prepared a report with her comments for the <br /> <br />
