PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, JUNE 28, 2006 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Slusser (arrived 7:36pm), Commissioners Joseph, Sargent, Swope, Wright COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Vice Chairperson White, Commissioner Truscelli GUESTS PRESENT: Sharon DeBell STAFF PRESENT: Director Corinne Centeno, Superintendent Gary Hover, Administrative Assistant Denise Monroe Commissioner Jeri Joseph called the regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission to order at 7:34pm in Room 1 of the Community Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The approval of the May 2006 minutes was tabled until the July meeting. Chairperson Slusser assumed the chairperson duties from Commissioner Joseph. CORRESPONDENCE There was no correspondence. ITEM 1 – PRESENTATION OF REDWOOD CITY CREEKS Sharon DeBell made a presentation regarding Redwood Creek and the potential “daylighting” of the creek to make it more accessible to the public. She provided some history as well as pictures of the creek from the turn of the century to now, showing how development has impacted the available creek acreage. Ms. DeBell felt the creek could be developed into 12 acres of active parkland, social spaces and water-based open space. She also suggested that a path could be developed to connect the creek to the Bay Trail. The Commissioners thanked Ms. DeBell for her presentation. ITEM 2 – PRESENTATION ON OPEN SPACE ELEMENT OF GENERAL PLAN AND RECOMMENDATION TO PLANNING COMMISSION Director Centeno said she has reviewed the current Open Space and Conservation Elements and felt there were some inconsistencies in the purpose of the element. She stated Commissioner Swope had also reviewed both elements and prepared a report with her comments for the
