,l I I ~ <br /> <br /> ~ 0 R I G I N A L 1722/96 <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 12686 <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION ENDORSING AND SUPPORTING <br /> REDWOOD CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT LIBRARY/MEDIA <br /> CENTER PROGRAM AND DECLARING INTENT TO <br /> PROVIDE CERTAIN FUNDING IN CONNECTION <br /> THEREWITH <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, school libraries and media centers provide necessary <br /> resources to stimulate and respond to intellectual inquiry; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, a strong correlation exists between high quality school <br /> library/media centers and academic achievement; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Redwood City School District serves a heterogeneous <br /> student body requiring a broad scope of academic resource materials; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, currently the library collections of the Redwood City School <br /> District are below pertinent educational standards and include little or no <br /> automated or computer technology; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, an effective library/media center program requires staffing by <br /> a certificated library/media specialist; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Redwood City Library enjoys a national reputation of <br /> excellence and achievement in responding to community needs; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the business community, represented by the Chamber of <br /> Commerce and its Education Committee, recognizes that high-quality education <br /> is essential to a thriving business and entrepreneurial climate; and <br /> <br /> <br />
