% 51 PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 28, 1998 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Truscelli, Commissioners Davis, Joseph, La Berge (arrived 7:37pm), Morton and Swope COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None GUESTS PRESENT: Sandy Simoneon, Bret Montague, Nancy Ratcliffe, Cathy Jennings, Larry Jennings, Hilary Paulson, David Stuart, Lettie Distefano STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Gary Hover, Superintendent Corinne Centeno, Manager Mike Gibbons The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to order by Chairperson Pauline Truscelli at 7:32pm in Room 5 of the Community Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the September meeting were approved as mailed. CORRESPONDENCE A letter was received in support of Dog Park #Z from a resident; this item will be discussed under Item 4. ITEM 1 — SKATEBOARD PARK UPDATE Superintendent Centeno explained that our Community Development Department is looking for land for the proposed skateboard park. The $'150,000 available for the park project is not enough to purchase land so staff is looking at City -owned land for the site. Temporary skateboard facilities consisting of ramps and rails will be set up in the CAB parking lot. This will allow for the "flushing" out of the rules and regulations and to see how the site is being used. Superintendent Centeno explained the Skateboard Sub - Committee comprised of Youth Advisory Board members, staff and parents will continue to explore options for the project and to evaluate the temporary skateboard facilities. ITEM 2 — PROPOSAL FOR THE NAMING OF REDWOOD SHORES DOG PARK Superintendent Hover stated letters were received from Terry Anderlini and Sandy Simoneon recommending naming the Redwood Shores dog park "Shore Dogs Park ". Ms. Simoneon asked the commission to consider the name and noted the Redwood Shores Homeowners Association has also endorsed the name as has the Steering Committee. She passed out a copy of the "Shore Dogs Bark" newsletter to the Commissioners. Chairperson Truscelli suggested "Redwood Shores Dog Park" and Ms. Simoneon said they want to keep it short and pleasant.
