PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, MARCH 28, 2007 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Slusser, Vice Chairperson White, <br /> Commissioners Joseph, Sargent, Swope, Wright <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioner Truscelli <br /> GUESTS: Michael Jones of Boys and Girls Club, Redwood City <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Director Corinne Centeno and Superintendent Gary Hover <br /> Chairperson Bob Slusser called the regular meeting of the Park and Recreation <br /> Commission to order at 7:30pm in Room 1 of the Community Activities Building, 1400 <br /> Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> M/S Wright/Joseph-Hover: To approve the minutes of the February 2007 meeting. <br /> The motion carried with Chairperson Slusser and Commissioner Swope <br /> abstaining due to their absence from the meeting. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> None <br /> ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br /> None <br /> ITEM 1 —ACTION ON PROPOSAL FOR PLACEMENT OF FOUNTAIN DONATED TO <br /> THE CITY BY THE UCCELLI FAMILY IN THE RED MORTON ROSE GARDEN. <br /> Chairperson Slusser noted that this item had been carried over from the February <br /> meeting and asked each Commissioner to share their thoughts. Commissioners <br /> Sargent, Swope, White, and Wright expressed their general willingness to move ahead <br /> with the installation of the fountain. Commissioner Joseph-Hover recommended, based <br /> on her discussions with park neighbors and tennis court users, that the area be posted <br /> with information on our proposal and that interested parties be invited to attend a future <br /> Park and Recreation Commission meeting. <br /> Staff responded to questions regarding the material used in the fountain, whether the <br /> stark white color could be toned down; if the arbor would be reconstructed in another <br /> area of the garden, the graffiti abatement strategy and whether improvements to the <br /> existing cracked concrete areas was contemplated as part of the project. <br /> M/S Sargent/Wright: To accept the gift of the fountain from the Uccelli Family and <br /> its placement in the Rose Garden of Red Morton Park. <br /> Motion passed (5-1). <br />
