PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, MARCH 28, 2007 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Slusser, Vice Chairperson White, Commissioners Joseph, Sargent, Swope, Wright COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioner Truscelli GUESTS: Michael Jones of Boys and Girls Club, Redwood City STAFF PRESENT: Director Corinne Centeno and Superintendent Gary Hover Chairperson Bob Slusser called the regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission to order at 7:30pm in Room 1 of the Community Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. APPROVAL OF MINUTES M/S Wright/Joseph-Hover: To approve the minutes of the February 2007 meeting. The motion carried with Chairperson Slusser and Commissioner Swope abstaining due to their absence from the meeting. CORRESPONDENCE None ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None ITEM 1 —ACTION ON PROPOSAL FOR PLACEMENT OF FOUNTAIN DONATED TO THE CITY BY THE UCCELLI FAMILY IN THE RED MORTON ROSE GARDEN. Chairperson Slusser noted that this item had been carried over from the February meeting and asked each Commissioner to share their thoughts. Commissioners Sargent, Swope, White, and Wright expressed their general willingness to move ahead with the installation of the fountain. Commissioner Joseph-Hover recommended, based on her discussions with park neighbors and tennis court users, that the area be posted with information on our proposal and that interested parties be invited to attend a future Park and Recreation Commission meeting. Staff responded to questions regarding the material used in the fountain, whether the stark white color could be toned down; if the arbor would be reconstructed in another area of the garden, the graffiti abatement strategy and whether improvements to the existing cracked concrete areas was contemplated as part of the project. M/S Sargent/Wright: To accept the gift of the fountain from the Uccelli Family and its placement in the Rose Garden of Red Morton Park. Motion passed (5-1).
