<br />REGULAR "IEETING, OCTOBER 6t 1954

<br />The regular meeting of the Park andRecreation C~ission was
<br />called to order by Chairman Irving Jold at 8:00p.m. Present:
<br />Catherine Brennan, Louise Tornell, Gerry Verssen, William Hanley,
<br />Maurice Schutz, Irving Gold, Pasco Balzarini, and Alfred Morton.
<br />Noted Absent: Alvn Beals.

<br />
<br />Mrs. Eloise Campbell, representing the Widows, Inc., appeared before the
<br />Commission, to ask for a parcel of land on Which to erect a
<br />building. This building would be construc~ed and maintained by
<br />the Widows, Inc~, and would be used to provide recreation for
<br />elderly persons, open to the general public, and not confined to
<br />any specific group. Mrs. Campbell inquired about the ~all parkway
<br />at the corner of Chestmut and ~lain streets' as a possib'le si te.
<br />~~SC by Catherine Brennan and GerI~Y Verssen, that a co1T1.Tiettee be
<br />appointed.to investigate the possibility of permitting a building
<br />to be erected at this location.
<br />Chairman ~old appointed Catherine Brennan, chairwoman, Gerry
<br />Verssen and Maurice Schutz to this comrni tee and asked for a report
<br />next month.

<br />A letter was received from Lynn P. Hockensmith, 730 Barron Avenue,
<br />Red\¥oQd City, asking for permission to repair berth #33 at Yatch
<br />Harbor for his cabin cruiser. He advised that he would donate & 1
<br />materials and'labor, and would release the city of Redwood City from
<br />all liability, ~1s mtter was referred to the Yatfh Harbor
<br />Committee for investigation.

<br />A co~unication fr~ Kay Santino, 961 Woodside ~ad, Redwood City,
<br />was forwarded to the Commission by ~iayor Herkner. rdrs. - Santino

<br />Park Superintendent Pasco Balzarini reported that the San Francisco
<br />\¥ater Com,pany will eliminRte the haaard at Communi ty Park by
<br />laying a pipe in the-existing ditch, and covering the pipe to the
<br />present ground level.

<br />Chairman Gold reported that conti.n11ing progress is being made
<br />regarding ,the Union CemetR,ry.

<br />Co~missioner Louise Tornell reported that Councilman Sp!llers had,
<br />advised that the model flying has been taking place at the Hoover
<br />School Grounds. Recreation Uirector Alfred Morton stated that wind
<br />. conditions at Hoover School were not favorable to flying planes, and
<br />suggested ~hat those persons concerned be permitted to return to
<br />Community Park. ChairmAn Gold asked Mr. Morton to contact Jerry
<br />Russel, 1027 Valota Road, who appeared before the Commission with
<br />the complaint o.f the noise, to see if some arrangements can be
<br />worked out to satisfy all concerned.
