<br />. <br /> <br />{ <br /> <br />PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> <br />Minutes of Wednesday, April 24, 1991 <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: <br /> <br />Chairperson Hardness, <br />Commissioners Castelli, Davis, <br />Mortensen and Slusser <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: <br /> <br />Commissioners Howard and <br />Swope <br /> <br />City Councilman Jack Murray and <br />Hita Spangler <br /> <br />GUESTS PRESENT: <br /> <br />STAFF PRESENT: <br /> <br />Parks & Recreation <br />Superintendent Sally Hartman and <br />Secretary Denise Monroe <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to <br />order at 7:30 p.m. by Chairperson Ed Hardness in Room 5 of the Community <br />Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />The minutes of the regular February meeting and the March Public Meeting <br />was approved as mailed. <br /> <br />CORRESPONDENCE <br /> <br />A letter was received from Gary Schoofs, Team Captain of the Men1s <br />Auxiliary of the Redwood Shores Tennis Club. He was interested in <br />reserving the tennis courts at Shorebird and Quay for future tennis <br />tournaments. Since Mr. Schoofs has indicated he will attend the May <br />meeting, this matter will be placed on the May agenda. <br /> <br />ITEM 1 - Review of C.P.R.S. Conference <br /> <br />Chairperson Hardness said that this year Commissioner Howard attended the <br />conference in Santa Clara. She felt that last year's conference in San <br />Diego had sessions that were more meaningful, but this year's conference <br />had considerable information on drought control. Superintendent Hartman <br />said that the exhibit hall at this year1s conference was tremendous and had <br />many more exhibitors than in previous years. Both she and Director <br />Griffiths spent time looking over play equipment to be used in future park <br />developments, with special emphasis on equipment to be used by disabled <br />persons and the safety of surfaces under play equipment. She felt that the <br />sessions were very worthwhile and really enjoyed them. She noted that <br />actor Dennis Weaver was the opening speaker of the conference. <br />Superintendent Hartman also mentioned that the mast beneficial part of the <br />conference is networking with your counterparts from other cities who face <br />similar problems. <br /> <br />ITEM 2 - Review of Redwood Shores Meeting <br /> <br />Commissioner Slusser felt that there was a good turnout for this community <br />meeting and with the assistance of the Redwood Shores Homeowners <br />Association there was good representation from all factions of the Shores. <br />He said that Director Griffiths. presentation was excellent and well <br />received by the audience.
