Redwood City, California.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

A gramatical error was noted on page 2. The minutes were approved as
corrected.

CORRESPONDENCE

There was no correspondence received.

ITEM 1 - Redwood Shores Tennis Club Request- Gary Schoofs

Mr. Schoofs explained that the Men1s Team of the Redwood Shores Tennis Club
is a part of the USTA and is a public club open to residents of Redwood
Shores. Many other teams belonging to the USTA are sponsored by private
country clubs and are able to use private courts for their matches. Mr.
Schoofs said that of the 11 matches held between April 25 and July II. half
are home matches. and these matches run between 2-3 hours. Currently the
team is using Sequoia High School's tennis courts for its matches but they
do not have official reservations to use the courts. In addition. the
courts are not lighted and several matches have had to be terminated due to
this fact. The Men's Club would like to request reserving the tennis
courts at Shorebird and Dolphin Parks for six weekday evenings between
April and July from 6-9pm. The group has liability insurance through the
Redwood Shores Tennis Club. Director Griffiths explained that the Redwood
Shores Tennis Club was given a six month trial basis and was the first club
to ask for exclusive use of tennis courts through the department. Since
the trial basis, three other groups have requested exclusive use but have
been turned down. Commissioner Slusser said he thought the original
agreem~nt with the Tennis Club was for exclusive use at Shorebird and that
the Dolphin Park tennis courts were to remain open for public u~e.
Director Griffiths indicated that the current request from the Tennis Club
was for exclusive use of the tennis courts in both parks on specific dates
during the year. They currently send in a letter requesting specific dates
along with a certificate of insurance.
