<br /> <br />¡J <br /> <br />if-¡ <br /> <br />PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> <br />MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, MAY 22, 1996 <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Truscelli¡ Commissioners <br />Davis, Morton, Slusser, Swope <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: <br /> <br />Commissioners Hughes and N ordness <br /> <br />GUESTS PRESENT: Malcolm Smith, Vince Truscelli, Police Officer'Dave <br />Gough, Dave Hoyt, Fred Tieman <br /> <br />STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Corinne Centeno, Supervisor Ian Knight, <br />Secretary Denise Monroe <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to <br />order by Chairperson Pauline Truscelli at 7:35pm in Room 5 of the <br />Community Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, <br />California. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />The April minutes were approved as mailed. <br /> <br />CORRESPONDENCE <br /> <br />Commissioner Swope received a letter from the Peninsula Celebration <br />Association (PCA) offering the Commission a booth at the 4th of July Festival. <br />She said the booth could be used to sell bricks for the Red Morton Center. <br />The booth fee is $30.00 and the Commissioners each agreed to donate $5.00 <br />each to pay for the booth. This item will be placed on the June agenda. <br /> <br />ITEM 1- MID-PENINSULA REGIONAL OPEN SPACE DISTRICT <br /> <br />Malcolm Smith, Public Affairs Officer for the Mid-Peninsula Regional Open <br />Space District, gave a brief presentation about the district for the <br />Commissioners. He explained the district was formed in 1972 as a result of a <br />public election and receives its funding through property taxes. The district is <br />300 square miles in size and extends from San Carlos to Los Gatos. The <br />purpose of the district is to create a regional open space greenbelt for the <br />public's enjoyment and to preserve those lands for future generations. The <br />district currently owns 23 open space areas and their main goal is to acquire <br />undeveloped natural land to be preserved. Mr. Smith explained the open <br />space areas include many hiking trails, several of which are handicap <br />accessible. There are no buildings or facilities on the open space land with the <br />exception of restrooms and park signage. The district employs 25 field staff, 19 <br /> <br />
