<br />PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> <br />MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 1997 <br /> <br />CO MMIS S lONERS PRESENT: Ch airperson T rusee Hi I Co mmiss ion erg <br />Davis, Nordness, and Slusser <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioners Hughes, Morton and Swope <br /> <br />GUESTS PRESENT: Vince Truscelli, Mary Parden, Terry Anderlini, and <br />15 Redwood Shores residents (See Sign-In List) <br /> <br />STAFF PRESENT: Director Peter Griffiths, Superintendent Gary Hover, <br />Manager Mike Gibbons, and Secretary Denise Monroe <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to <br />order by Chairperson Pauline Truscelli at 7:30pm in Room 5 of the <br />Community Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, <br />California. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />The minutes of the January meeting were approved as mailed. <br /> <br />CORRESPONDENCE <br /> <br />There was no correspondence. <br /> <br />ITEM 1- SPECIAL OLYMPICS PRESENTATION <br /> <br />This item will be deferred until later this year. <br /> <br />ITEM 2 - DOG PARK IN REDWOOD SHORES <br /> <br />Commissioner Slusser explained the purpose of the Park and Recreation <br />Commission to the audience and detailed the Commission's history with <br />respect to the issue of the dogs in the parks. He noted that the Commission <br />has dealt with this issue for many years and has done considerable research <br />and work on this subject. Several years ago, a possible dog park site was <br />located in Redwood City, but it met with stiff opposition from the <br />surrounding neighbors. Commissioner Slusser stated that a City ordinance <br />prohibits dogs in Redwood City parks and this ordinance can only be changed <br />by the City Council. <br /> <br />Director Griffiths reviewed his meetings with Commissioner Slusser and <br />Redwood Shores resident Terry Anderlini regarding possible sites for a dog <br /> <br />
