PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, JULY 28, 1999 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Morton, Commissioners Davis, Joseph, La Berge, and Swope COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioners Slusser and Truscelli GUESTS PRESENT: Susie Peyton STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Gary Hover, Administrative Assistant Denise Monroe The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to order by Chairperson Vic Morton at 7:30pm in Room 5 at the Community Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The following changes were requested to be made to the June minutes: -Item 5, Skate Park Design Committee Report; the second sentence should read that some of the neighbors were against the project and some neighbors were supportive of the project. -Item 3, Report from Sub-Committees; Commissioner LaBerge should be noted as the chair of the alcohol in the parks sub-committee. -Item 5, 4th of July Parade Entry; delete the third sentence entirely. M/S Davis/LaBerge: To approve the June minutes as corrected. Motion passed unanimously. CORRESPONDENCE The Commissioners received the following pieces of correspondence in their pa ck ets : 1.) Letter from Terry Anderlini to Superintendent Hover requesting a meeting with him to discuss the year 2000 budget for the Shore Dogs Park; Mr. Anderlini felt that the park should have an annual budget for grass repair and replacement. Superintendent Hover explained that there are soil problems at Shore Dogs Park and staff is looking at ways to improve the turf there. He noted that staff does not plan to budget for grass repair and replacement at the park. The Commissioners discussed the situation and said it was their understanding that grass repair and replacement was never part of the agreement in maintaining the park. Superintendent Hover mentioned that Shore Dogs Park is getting tremendous wear and tear due to excessive use and it was suggested to close the park several times each year to give the turf time to rest and repair itself. 2.) Letter to Park Manager Mike Gibbons thanking him for his help and assistance on the Commission's 4th of July float for the Commission.
