The minutes of the January meeting were approved. as mail.ed with the following addition under Roundtable: Commissioner Swope commended Center Supervisor Centeno on doing a fine job with the Consorti.um for School Aged Child Care. CoEresl?ond~nce A letter from Director Griffiths to Robert Slusser, Redwood Shores Homeowners' Association, was distributed to the Commission regarding anticipated construction timetables and development of the Belmont School site. An article appearing in the Redwood City Weekly regarding Red Morton Center was distributed. ITEM 1 - MIDYEAR BUDGET REVIEW Chairman Buchan, Commissioners Howard, Nordness and Swope attended the midyear budget review on February 6, 1988. Commissioner Howard said she learned that the review was a summary of each department's accomplishments over the past year and a preview of the city's upcoming financial situation. Director Griffiths said the City Manager is preparing a budget message for the department heads and expenditure cutbacks are expected. ' ITEM 2 - RED MORTON COMMI~TEE Chairman Buchan said the bond issue considered by the City rounciJ. was tabled for now although, it may possiblv be considered for the November ballot. In light of that, the Red Morton Committee has discussed establishing a non-profi,t organization such as Friends of the Parks to raise funds for a new Red Morton Center. Commissioner Mortensen felt it was a huge undertaking, however, it may serve not only to raise funds but to increase the community's le~1e1. of awareness as to the needs of a new faciJ.i ty. Discussion continued and many questions were asked. How much does it cost to form such an organization? What are the ),egalities of such an organization? Where would the $40-50,000 be raised to run such a campaign? .-"------ .--"-.,: - ',-
