<br />f <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br />MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 2000 <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Davis, Commissioners Joseph, <br />Slusser, Swope and Truscelli <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioners LaBerge and Morton <br /> <br />GUESTS PRESENT: Vince Truscelli <br /> <br />STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Gary Hover, Secretary Denise Monroe, <br />Manager Julie Hannon, Manager Ramon Aguilar <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to order <br />by Chairperson Don Davis at 7:30pm in Room 5 at the Community Activities <br />Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />The following corrections were made to the January minutes: <br />1.) Item 1, motion should read, "To grant the heritage tree permit to Mr. <br />Washington contingent on Mr. Washington providing plans to renovate his <br />yard to the Public Works Services Department for their approval", <br />2.) Item 4, Stulsaft Park Remediation, the last sentence should read, 'The State <br />and County have approved the process and we should be able to proceed". <br />The minutes of the January meeting were approved as corrected. <br /> <br />CORRESPONDENCE <br /> <br />-A newsletter from the Fifth Annual "Great Gathering 2000" which is a youth <br />advisory commission/council leadership conference. The conference will be held <br />on Saturday, March 4 at the San Carlos Youth Center. <br /> <br />ITEM 1 - SKATE PARK U PDA TE <br /> <br />Manager Julie Hannon reported that we recently received correspondence from <br />Attorney Bill Conklin of the NFL Association asking for the measurements of the <br />proposed skate park. Staff is currently obtaining the measurements and will <br />provide them to Mr. Conklin. She explained that we are working on a master <br />plan for this area of Red Morton Park which includes the property for the skate <br />park. Staff is proposing that a temporary skate park be installed on the site <br />rather than a permanent one. This will allow staff to monitor the usage of the <br />site, age and number of participants, staffing needed to supervise the site, <br />equipment and safety needs, and other concerns. A temporary site would <br />include a paved area with structures placed on top of the paving, but would not <br />involve permanent structures dug into the ground. Manager Hannon stated we <br />will be working with the neighbors to assess the temporary site and deal with <br />issuesm Chairperson Davis volunteered to work with staff in discussions with the <br />neighbors. <br /> <br />Commissioner Slusser agreed with the proposed temporary skate park concept <br />and felt it was an excellent approach to have a Utest" site before a permanent <br />skate park was installed.
