<br />PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> <br />MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 23, 2000 <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Vice Chairperson Joseph, Commissioners <br />LaBerge, Slusser, and Truscelli <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Chairperson Davis, Commissioners Morton <br />and Swope <br /> <br />GUESTS PRESENT: See sign in list (11 attendees) <br /> <br />STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Gary Hover, Secretary Denise Monroe, <br />Acting Director Centeno, Manager Beth, Manager <br />Gibbons <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to <br />order by Vice Chairperson Jeri Joseph at 8:0pm in Room 5 at the Community <br />Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />A correction was made to the July minutes under Item 1, page 6, paragraph <br />2. The second sentence should read: "Commissioner LaBerge suggested <br />banning extra BBQs and discussed changing the hours of the water feature." <br />The minutes were approved as corrected. <br /> <br />CORRESPON DENCE <br /> <br />There was no correspondence. <br /> <br />ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br /> <br />Manager Chris Beth advised the Commission that the joint grant we made to <br />the USA Swim Association with the Peninsula Convenant Community Center <br />(PCC) was not approved. As a result, the department has decided to extend <br />the swim season into winter with adult lap swim to be offered in the mornings <br />and afternoons. We will also be offering water aerobics targeted towards the <br />senior population. Manager Beth also reported that we are working on a <br />lease with PCC to offer a swim school during the off-season; we will do an <br />assessment after the completion of the program to determine its success. <br />PCC will be purchas;ng a "bubble" which will go over the pool for the <br />program. The bubble will cost $12,000 and will be donated to the City by <br />pcc. <br /> <br />Superintendent Hover updated the Commissioners on the eucalyptus tree <br />issue in Redwood Shores and reported that the predator wasp was to be <br /> <br />
