<br />PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> <br />MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 2002 <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Joseph, Commissioners Davis, <br />Morton, Swope, Truscelli and Walsh <br /> <br />COM MISSION ERS ABSENT: Com missioner La Berge <br /> <br />GUESTS PRESENT: Vince Truscelli, Kirsten Faubion, Ali Sanchez, Jessica <br />Wooten, Eileen Parker, Arturo Blanco, Michael Mahoney, Ana Cancino, Kathy <br />Balova, Christal Carter, Carla Finau <br /> <br />STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Gary Hover, Superintendent Chris Beth, <br />Recreation Manager Adilah Haqq-Smith, Recreation Supervisor Mark Yasuda, <br />Recreation Supervisor Jodi Shepard, Secretary Denise Monroe <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />The minutes of January 23, 2002 were approved as mailed. <br /> <br />CORRESPON DENCE <br /> <br />The following items of correspondence were received: <br />-A newsletter from the Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society <br />-A newsletter from the Shore Dogs Group <br /> <br />Chairperson Joseph shared a copy of the County of San Mateo's "Shared <br />Vision" report with the Commissioners. <br /> <br />ITEM 1- PRESENTATION BY MEMBERS OF THE YOUTH ADVISORY <br />BOARD AND TEEN ADVISORY BOARD <br /> <br />Recreation Supervisor Mark Yasuda introduced Eileen Parker and Arturo <br />Blanco, members of the Teen Advisory Board (TAB), who provided the <br />Commission with the history of the board and their mission statement. The <br />TAB has been in operation one year and they have eleven members (ages 13 <br />and older) representing various high schools in the community. The group <br />meets on the first Wednesday of each month at the Red Morton Center. <br />They noted that the board is planning a poetry event for teens and will also <br />be volunteering at the Pet Parade. <br /> <br />Recreation Supervisor Jodi Shepard introduced eight representatives from <br />the Youth Advisory Board (YAB) who spoke to the Commission about the <br />history of the board and their mission statement. The Y AB has 16 members <br />representing various local schools (ages 12 and under) and they meet every <br />Tuesday at the Red Morton Center. The YAB representatives also spoke <br /> <br />. <br />
