F ^.ek 4/1/64-7 R E S O L U T I O N N O. 2SZ RESOLUTION OF COUNCIL OF CITY OF REDWOOD CITY CONCERNING UNDERGROUND INSTALLATION OF HIGH VOLTAGE TRANSMISSION LINES IN THE COUNTY OF SAN MATEO WHEREAS, the Town of Woodside has enacted a zoning ordinance requiring new high voltage electrical transmission lines to be placed underground; and, WHEREAS, this ordinance is reasonable and in accord with a national trend to place electric transmission and distribution lines underground, particularly in scenic and recreational areas immediately adjacent to our rapidly -growing centers of population in California; and, WHEREAS, it is manifestly in the interest of the citizens of this city and the public generally that new high-voltage transmission lines be placed underground, and that the scenic beauty and recreational areas of San Mateo County and all commun- ities therein be preserved; and, WHEREAS, the Pacific Gas and Electric Company has refused and continues to refuse to place underground a proposed 220,000 volt electric transmission line running through the Town of Woodside and unincorporated areas of the County of San Mateo to serve the Stanford Linear Accelerator unless compensated therefor in the form of rates for electric power deemed un- justifiable by the Atomic Energy Commission, the agency of the federal government which will operate the Accelerator; and, WHEREAS, the Atomic Energy Commission has, as a result of the position of the Pacific Gas and Electric Company, elected to condemn and build its own overhead line through said area, thereby permanently disfiguring the scenic beauties and recre- ational areas along the Skyline Ridge and Searsville areas of the County of San Mateo;
