<br />M~;H: 1 t :6/7/7] <br /> <br />ORIGINAr <br /> <br />Jll~ 'U <br /> <br />o R DIN A N C E <br />--------- <br /> <br />N O. <br /> <br />IS71 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 23.9, 23.22 Am) 23.31, <br />OF THE CODE OF 'I'HE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, RELATING TO <br />THE PERSONNEL SYSTEM <br /> <br />'I'HE COUNCIL OF REDWOOD CITY DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />SECTION 1. Section 23.9 of the Code of the City of Redwood <br /> <br />city is hereby a ended to read as follows: <br /> <br />"Section 23.9 <br /> <br />No person in the competitive service, <br /> <br />or seeking admission thereto, shall be employed, promoted, <br /> <br />demoted or discharged, or in any way favored or discriminated <br /> <br />against because of political opinions or affiliations, or <br /> <br />because of race, creed, color, national origin, religious <br /> <br />beliefs, sex or lawful activities in formally recognized <br /> <br />employee organizations: and to the extent prohibited by <br /> <br />applicuble state or Federal law there shall be no discrimina- <br /> <br />tion because of age. <br /> <br />SE~ION 2. section 23.22 of the Code of the City of Redwood <br /> <br />City is hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />"section 23.22 <br /> <br />Employees of the City shall not be <br /> <br />required to be residents of the City; provided, however, <br /> <br />that the following resi~ence requirements shall govern the <br /> <br />employees designated hereinafter: <br /> <br />"(a) Personnel assigned to, and actively engaged in, <br /> <br />fire fighting and fire prevention duties (excluding dis- <br /> <br />patchers, telephone operators, clerical employees, machinists, <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />mechanics, or other persons whose duties do not clearly fall <br /> <br />within the scope of active fire fighting or fire prevention <br /> <br />activities) in the Fire Department shall maintain residence <br /> <br />so situated as to provide that such personnel shall consume <br /> <br />not more than 30 minutes travel time from such residence to <br /> <br />Fire station No. 1 traveling by motor vehicle over the most <br />
