05/21/2007 <br />ORIGINAL <br />RESOLUTION NO. 14778 <br />RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br />REQUESTING AND SUPPORTING A FUTURE REALIGNMENT OF THE <br />BAY TRAIL ON INNER BAIR ISLAND IN REDWOOD CITY <br />WHEREAS, the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) in cooperation with <br />local, regional, state, and federal agencies, and environmental and recreational organizations <br />throughout the nine Bay Area counties, has developed and is implementing the San <br />Francisco Bay Trail Project; and <br />WHEREAS, the Bay Trail will link recreational and open space areas throughout the <br />San Francisco Bay region with approximately 500 miles of hiking and bicycling facilities, of <br />which 288 miles have already been completed; and <br />WHEREAS, the Bay Trail Project's intent is to secure and provide public access to the <br />bay front, that is compatible with its natural environments, and its wildlife habitats, while <br />offering greatly enhanced opportunities for the public to enjoy easily accessible recreation <br />including hiking, jogging, bicycling, and skating, as well as providing commute alternatives; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, a current segment of the Bay Trail in Redwood City is designated on a <br />portion of the existing loop trail on Inner Bair Island, parallel to State Route 101; and <br />WHEREAS, the United States Fish and Wildlife Services (USFWS), with the <br />involvement, cooperation, and support of Redwood City, is in the midst of a major wetlands <br />restoration project which will alter the trail alignment and access points to Inner Bair Island; <br />and <br />ATTY/RESO/RES0.1704 <br />050307 <br />14778 <br />Muff # 205 <br />1 <br />
