03/08/2021 <br />RESOLUTION NO. 15939 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD <br />CITY ESTABLISHING THE POLICE ADVISORY COMMITTEE <br />WHEREAS, as stated in Resolution 15877 adopted on August 10, 2020, it is the <br />responsibility of government to serve and protect all residents and to uphold their civil <br />rights so that all members of our community feel safe; and <br />WHEREAS, as also stated in Resolution 15877, the City of Redwood City seeks <br />to increase community involvement in Police policies and activities and to strengthen <br />the City's commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion within the City organization and <br />in the provision of City services; and <br />WHEREAS, the Redwood City Police Department is a progressive police <br />department which recognizes that by working in a partnership with the community, it can <br />best meet its goals of protecting life and property, improving the quality of life, and <br />reducing crime and the fear of crime, consistent with the department's motto, "Providing <br />Excellent Service with Integrity and Respect,-" and <br />WHEREAS, the establishment of a Police Advisory Committee will facilitate <br />partnership and transparency between the Police Department and the community in <br />service to the above goals and commitments. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF REDWOOD CITY AS FOLLOWS: <br />1. Police Advisory Committee. The Police Advisory Committee (hereinafter <br />the "Committee"), consisting of eleven (11) community representatives is hereby <br />established. One member shall be appointed by each City Council member for a total <br />of seven (7) individually appointed members, and four members shall be appointed at <br />large by a majority of the City Council, resulting in a total of 11 Committee members. It <br />is the desire of the City Council that the Police Advisory Committee reflect the diversity <br />of the community. <br />2. Members. The term of office for each of the Councilmember-appointed <br />members shall be 2 years, and the term of office for each of the at large -appointed <br />members shall be 4 years.
