PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION
MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, APRIL 25, 2007
COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Slusser, Vice Chairperson White,
Commissioners )oseph-Hover, Sargent, Swope, Truscelli and Wright
COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None
GUESTS PRESENT: Civic Cultural Commissioner Jason Newblanc, Vince
Truscelli
STAFF PRESENT: Director Corinne Centeno, Superintendent Gary Hover,
Superintendent Chris Beth, Administrative Assistant Denise Monroe
Chairperson Bob Slusser called the regular meeting of the Park and
Recreation Commission to order at 7:30pm in Room 5 of the Community
Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes of the March meeting were approved as mailed.
CORRESPONDENCE
There was no correspondence.
The following items were taken out of order:
ITEM 2 — REVIEW AND APPROVAL DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVE
PARKLAND IN PARK STANDARD AND IN-LIEU FEE ORDINANCE
Superintendent Hover referred to his 4-25-07 report to the Commission
asking for input on several issues concerning open space in private
developments. He asked for input on whether any credit should be granted
to developers for private open space, suggested minimum requirements for
such a credit, and then discussed differences in the credit based on whether
it was open to the public or only available to residents of the development.
Commissioner Swope asked and staff agreed to change the language so the
word "use" is not repeated in "useable for active recreational uses".
Staff recommended that "usage for active recreation" be defined as:
i. At least 1.0 acres in size.
ii. Open to residents of the subdivision for recreational uses.
iii. At least 25% of the area is developed with basketball, soccer,
baseball, volleyball, tennis, football, or similar courts.
