PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, MAY 23, 2007 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Slusser, Vice Chairperson White, <br /> Commissioners Joseph-Hover, Sargent, Swope, Truscelli and Wright <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Steve Zwieg, Vince Truscelli, Michael Jones, Lizeth <br /> Chavez <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Director Corinne Centeno, Superintendent Gary Hover, <br /> Superintendent Chris Beth, Administrative Assistant Denise Monroe <br /> Chairperson Bob Slusser called the regular meeting of the Park and <br /> Recreation Commission to order at 7:30pm in Room 5 of the Community <br /> Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> The minutes of the April meeting were approved as mailed. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> -A newsletter was received from the California Association of Parks and <br /> Recreation Commissioners and Board Members. <br /> ITEM 1 — REQUEST FROM REDWOOD CITY POP WARNER GROUP TO <br /> RE-NAME MCGARVEY FIELD FOR FRANK GUIDA <br /> Steve Zwieg of Redwood City Pop Warner wanted to clarify that his <br /> organization is not interested in re-naming McGarvey field, but rather naming <br /> the newly installed turf in honor of Frank Guida. Mr. Zwieg spoke about Mr. <br /> Guida's contributions to the community and his devotion to the youth of <br /> Redwood City. Mr. Zwieg stated he spoke with Mr. Guida's children and they <br /> agree that the new turf at McGarvey field is the perfect spot since their father <br /> coached at that location for 42 years. <br /> The Commissioners asked if there was a naming policy or a procedure for <br /> handling this type of request and the status of City Council naming policy. <br /> Director Centeno suggested the Commission give staff direction to research <br /> the matter and come back with recommendations at the June meeting. The <br /> Commissioners agreed with the suggestion and asked Mr. Zwieg to return to <br /> the June meeting. <br />
