PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, MAY 23, 2007 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Slusser, Vice Chairperson White, Commissioners Joseph-Hover, Sargent, Swope, Truscelli and Wright COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None GUESTS PRESENT: Steve Zwieg, Vince Truscelli, Michael Jones, Lizeth Chavez STAFF PRESENT: Director Corinne Centeno, Superintendent Gary Hover, Superintendent Chris Beth, Administrative Assistant Denise Monroe Chairperson Bob Slusser called the regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission to order at 7:30pm in Room 5 of the Community Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the April meeting were approved as mailed. CORRESPONDENCE -A newsletter was received from the California Association of Parks and Recreation Commissioners and Board Members. ITEM 1 — REQUEST FROM REDWOOD CITY POP WARNER GROUP TO RE-NAME MCGARVEY FIELD FOR FRANK GUIDA Steve Zwieg of Redwood City Pop Warner wanted to clarify that his organization is not interested in re-naming McGarvey field, but rather naming the newly installed turf in honor of Frank Guida. Mr. Zwieg spoke about Mr. Guida's contributions to the community and his devotion to the youth of Redwood City. Mr. Zwieg stated he spoke with Mr. Guida's children and they agree that the new turf at McGarvey field is the perfect spot since their father coached at that location for 42 years. The Commissioners asked if there was a naming policy or a procedure for handling this type of request and the status of City Council naming policy. Director Centeno suggested the Commission give staff direction to research the matter and come back with recommendations at the June meeting. The Commissioners agreed with the suggestion and asked Mr. Zwieg to return to the June meeting.
