There will be many opportunities out there and he said Redwood City is a <br /> happening place with a lot of vibrant real estate activity. <br /> Mayor Gee said that the Council would work with Dr. Bell and his staff on housing funds <br /> as the Housing Element comes forward to have a sustainable mechanism in place. The <br /> Mayor said that it will take a long time to collect money and do something significant. He <br /> would like to discuss this at the upcoming mini-retreat on how to develop funds, deal <br /> with rent stabilization issues, improve relations with landlords with older properties to <br /> improve them, and promote new housing stock. <br /> Lastly, the Mayor said that the City wants to celebrate what has been accomplished, but <br /> tell partners like businesses, not just developers, what the City expects from them. City Council Member Reports of Conferences Attended <br /> Council Member Pierce announced she received a note from the General Manager of <br /> Bay Area Water Supply Conservation Agency (BAWSCA) regarding water usage. She <br /> regularly meets with the SFPUC (San Francisco Public Utilities Commission) to review <br /> the level of water use reductions. There were news reports that Governor Brown might <br /> require a 20 percent reduction. The SFPUC reported that BAWSCA, which includes <br /> Redwood City, is on target to show a reduction of 10 percent and the SFPUC will <br /> continue to request another 10 percent reduction and monitor it. It is still voluntary, but <br /> he would like to encourage people to be thoughtful on their water usage. <br /> This Council Member also noted that Supervisor Dave Pine and Congresswoman <br /> Jackie Speier will be hosting a Sea Level Rise event and she will attend. She also said <br /> that in July the Board of Supervisors will have a meeting regarding homelessness and <br /> she plans to attend it. <br /> Council Member Howard was at Hoover School to celebrate with members of the Police <br /> Department and the neighborhood the new cameras and lights that went over the <br /> footbridge across Woodside Road. She explained that this is the route students take to <br /> school and it was dark and sometimes scary. She noted that the parents went to the <br /> Police Department to advocate for their children's safety. She commended the students, <br /> the School Board, neighbors, and the Police Department for the work done to increase <br /> safety. She thanked the Police Department, Public Works, IT, and all the others.
